2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Build
Our new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon has arrived! We have been doing research and reading up on news for months awaiting its release and arrival. Now its time to begin the actual work. Lets start with some simple information.
The new 2018 JL is available in 2 door, and 4 door versions, in a Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon models. Sport, Sport S and Sahara are basically the same in body and drivetrain with main differences in standard or available features. But the Rubicon has a few differences. At this time, 1/31/2018 the only engine choice is the 3.6 V6 in a 6 speed manual or 8 speed auto.
1. Rubicon has D44 axles front and rear. These axles are stronger, wider, use 4.10 gears, and come standard with electric lockers. Better gearing means more power with larger tires, and lockers making sure all 4 tire always spin in any situation.
2. Rubicon has electric sway bar disconnects. Easily allows much better articulation, so your tires stay on the ground.
3. Rubicon has a 4:1 transfer case. On road this doesn’t affect anything, but off road it multiply torque adding power and slows down the vehicle for more control.
4. Rubicon also has higher fenders. This helps run larger tires. Rubicon comes with 33s, but 35s basically fit, and with a 2-3" lift 37s may also work.
So therefore we purchased a 4 door JLUR. JL is the model code name. U is for unlimited which is the 4 dr model, and R is for Rubicon. So our JLUR will go through a few build stages. Stage 1 will be a 2-3" lift, 37s with factory length adjustable arms. This will be a 100% bolt on suspension for easily installation, but be fully adjustable so you can setup all the necessary angles. If you do a 2-3" lift on a Sport, Sport S or Sahara this should fit a 35" tire.
