From a Garage Build to an Industry Standard: 25 Years of Clayton Off Road

Like a lot of great things in the off-road world, Clayton Off Road didn’t start as a company-it started as a need.

Back in the early 2000s, founder Clayton Walters was building and modifying parts for his own ’95 ZJ Grand Cherokee. At the time, there weren’t any options that could truly handle the kind of off-road abuse he was putting his Jeep through, so he had no choice but to build his own.

What started as one off parts quickly caught attention.

Friends wanted the same setup. Then friends of friends. Before long, Clayton was fabricating suspension components out of a tiny garage, turning late nights and trail testing into something bigger than a hobby.

That garage operation grew into a full company in 2001, built on one simple principle:
if it doesn’t hold up on the trail, it doesn’t belong on a Jeep.

Raising the Bar Early

Clayton Off Road didn’t just enter the market, it helped shape it.

By 2002, the company name began spreading, setting a new standard for strength, ride quality, and real-world performance.

From there, the product line expanded but the mindset never changed. Everything was (and still is) designed for actual use: rock crawling, trail bashing, and then still making it home.

Built by Jeep People, For Jeep People

Even as the company grew, the core stayed the same. Clayton Off Road has always been rooted in real Jeep culture, people who actually use their rigs, test their parts, and stand behind what they build.

As demand grew, so did we. What started in a small garage led to moves, upgrades, and expansion through multiple shops over the years - each step allowing us to build better products and serve more of the off-road community.

Today, we proudly call Hamden, Connecticut home. It’s where our team continues to design, test, and push our products forward every single day as we keep growing into the next chapter of Clayton Off Road.

Celebrating 25 Years

2026 marks 25 years of Clayton Off Road and we’re celebrating it the only way that makes sense: with the community that built us.

Our “25 on the 25th” campaign runs all year long, bringing monthly giveaways, exclusive deals, and chances for customers to get involved. Whether it’s showing off your rig, sharing your build, or just being part of the story, this milestone is about more than just us, it’s about everyone who’s been along for the ride.
